Description of his service

Royal Corps of Signals, notably his initial training at Ashton under Lyne and Catterick, Yorkshire and officer training on Course 36, 152 OCTU at Catterick (January 1941 - ? January 1942) and his service with 53rd Divisional Signals in Wem, Shropshire (January - April and October - December 1942) including an attachment to 81st Field Regiment RA in Sutton Valence, Kent (April - September 1942); en route to India via South Africa (January - June 1943); active service with 72 Operating Section, Dehra Dun, India (June 1943 – November 1943; including a training course for junior officers at Jhansi, Central India (September 1943); commanding the SEAC Signals Office, GHQ, Delhi, India (November 1943 - May 1944); as Signal Officer with Special Operations Executive (SOE) as part of Force 136 at Military Establishment No 9 (ME9) in Meerut (May - June 1944) and with the British Army Aid Group (BAAG) in China (July 1944 - December 1945; principally in North China; and finally in Hong Kong, initially as temporary OC Signals Company (circa January - February 1946; then on the staff of the Chief Signal Officer, Land Force HQ, prior to his departure to England (May 1946) for demobilisation to attend Cambridge University
