Frank Quinn was born on November 13, 1928, in Niagra Falls, New York. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 27, 1946, and served in the Water Tender rate and was promoted to Petty Officer Third Class before receiving an honorable discharge on June 26, 1948. During this time he served in Europe from September 1946 to May 1948. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 29, 1948, and completed Army Basic Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, in September 1948. He then served as a Postal Clerk with the 28th Base Post Office in Germany from October 1948 to April 1952, followed by service as a Postal Clerk with the 7th Base Post Office in Japan from April to October 1952. His next assignment was as an infantryman and squad leader with Company G of the 27th Infantry Regiment in South Korea from November 1952 to October 1953. SFC Quinn returned to the U.S. in October 1953, and then served at Camp Gordon, Georgia, from September 1953 to March 1954. He served with the 77th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, from March 1954 to July 1955, and then with Company B, 511th Airborne Infantry Regiment, at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and deployed to Germany from July 1955 to February 1957. SFC Quinn remained in Germany and and joined Company A, 2nd Airborne Battle Group of the 505th Infantry Regiment, where he served until returning to the U.S. in June 1957. After serving briefly with a replacement infantry company at Fort Dix from June to October 1957, he served as a light weapons specialist with the 77th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg from October 1957 to July 1959. His next assignment was as a light weapons specialist and operations and intelligence sergeant with the 1st Special Forces Group on Okinawa from July 1959 to July 1964, and during this time he deployed to South Vietnam from March to May 1962 (he was captured by the Viet Cong on April 8, 1962, and released on May 1, 1962), again in late May 1962 until November 1962, and from March to September 1963. After returning to the U.S., SFC Quinn served as an operations sergeant with Company E, 7th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg from August 1964 to November 1965, followed by service as an operations sergeant with Company B, 5th Special Forces Group in South Vietnam from November 1965 to November 1967. MSG Quinn served with 1st Special Forces Group on Okinawa from November 1967 to May 1968, before retiring from the Army on December 1, 1968. Frank Quinn died November 20, 2014.
