CITATION:

Military Cross : PADUANG. 30th MARCH 1942. Commander of the reserved platoon which was surprised at 0030 by a large force of Japanese. He, with Cpl. Winters, R.M. and a Marine Shaw, hid beneath a hut and inflicted casualties estimated at twenty-five to thirty at very close range on the enemy, using a tommy gun, a bren gun, and grenades. Was charged twice and ordered to surrender, but crept out at 0430, and made his escape with his party, having run out of ammunition. Rejoined the launches six miles upstream at dawn.
