CITATION:

Military Medal : On 16th September 1943, Trooper AMESBURY was one of the crew of an anti-tank gun in a position south-west of BATTPAGLIA.

During the morning a strong enemy attack preceded by mortar and artillery concentrations, was made on this position. The gun position was heavily fired on by enemy machine guns and mortars at close range, but Trooper AMESBURY displayed great coolness and succeeded in knocking out two enemy mortar posts by sniping with his rifle and subsequently helped to carry ammunition to forward section posts under heavy enemy fire.

During the whole of this engagement Trooper AMESBURY showed conspicuous courage and coolness.
